Performance Work

Artistic Statement

I believe in the power of the arts to create transformation within the individual, community, and the world. My work is devoted to facilitating that process. Through the fusion of movement, words, sound, and visuals I seek to envelop my audience in this process making them apart of it’s unfolding. I like to think of it as soul-centered artistry because it is very much rooted in a connection to past, present, and future. My work has always been about women; those that I have known and those who I meet in my dreams and visions. I want my audiences to step into the shoes of these women and feel what their feet feel like as they walk into a spirited (re)birth.

BILLIE: A New Interdisciplinary Performance Work

This fall I had the opportunity to participate in The Field’s Emerging Artist Residency. For 4-months the FAR studio became my artistic home as I birthed this latest work. I look forward to continuing to develop this piece throughout 2012 showcasing excerpts around town, a workshop production in the spring, and a full production of BILLIE, toward the end of 2012.

BILLIE, takes us on a journey through the lives of four characters, each inspired by a Billie Holiday song. My intention is that together we’ll explore the question, “What does it mean to be well?” . This work is song, movement, prayer, and testimony on a journey to revelation.

The birth of new work always requires the support of a nurturing community. By attending performances, joining my mailing list, Facebook page, spreading the word and making a financial contribution you can help me make BILLIE a fully formed beautiful reality.
