Community Arts Workshops and Residencies
The arts & culture have always played an important role in inspiring movements for social change around the world. Piper Anderson is proud to be apart of that continuing legacy. For twelve years she has facilitated workshops and residencies that offer community organizations, schools, and universities a space to create dialogue and inspire action
Residencies and Workshops are grounded in social justice pedagogy and incorporate design tools such as:
- Interactive Applied Theatre Techniques
- Creative Writing
- Somatic Awareness Practice
- Democratic Dialogue Exercises
- Guided Visualizations
- Movement
Each workshop and residency is custom designed to respond to the unique needs of each community.
She has facilitated workshops and residencies in public schools across New York City, and at universities and colleges such as Columbia University, New York University, Harvard, Univ of Wisconsin-Madison, UC-Berkeley, and organizations like the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, American Place Theatre, Center for Arts Education, Urban Word, and The Tides Foundation.
Recent Residencies:
- 2012 Artistic Director-in-Residence for The Ism Project Gala at Center for Multicultural Education & Programs at NYU.
- Core Member of Facilitation Team for an NYC based Healing Justice & Transformative Justice training collective for People of Color.
- Keynote Speaker/Performer at Urban Word’s 2011 Preemptive Education Training. Theme: “Beyond Violence: Promoting Healing Through Spoken Word, Hip Hop, and Critical Pedagogy”
